As the snow begins to fall, you may be tempted to put your RV away for the season. But wait! There’s no reason a little snow should damper your fun. In fact, North Idaho offers some beautiful winter adventures, such as skiing and brewery hopping! Your RV makes a great jumping off point, or a great place to come back to for a cup of cocoa. Here are a few of our favorite places to go RVing in the winter:
Cross country skiing
A timeless Idaho classic — cross country skiing! With so many beautiful groomed cross country ski trails near Sandpoint, it’s an easy destination for a winter RV trip. Cross country skiing is easy to learn, and there are plenty of places to rent gear in Sandpoint and the surrounding towns. Some of our favorite trails include those at Farragut State Park, Priest Lake Nordic Center, Round Lake State Park, and the trails on Schweitzer Mountain.
Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you have to stop fishing! Check out fishing charters on Lake Pend Oreille and the Clark Fork River to experience the magic of wintertime fishing! Use the RV to heat up some cocoa to warm up after being outside all day (and to cook up your catch!)
If downhill skiing or snowboarding is your cup of tea (or if you’d like to learn!) then check out Schweitzer Mountain, less than half an hour north of Sandpoint. Shuttle up and back to the mountain from Sandpoint, and use your RV as a cozy jumping-off point for lots of snowy adventures! Loving the snow bunny life? Travel to some of Idaho’s other ski hills, such as Silver Mountain, Lookout Pass and even Bogus Basin in Southern Idaho.
Natural hot springs
After you take your RV to every ski resort in the state, you might be a little sore, right? Next on the list is hitting some natural hot springs! Southern Idaho is especially ripe with natural hot springs, including Kirkham Hot Springs, Mountain Village Resort and Trail Creek Hot Springs.
Food or brew tasting in Sandpoint
When you need a day (or two!) to recover from all that physical activity, take a load off in one of North Idaho’s hidden gems. Sandpoint is one of the cutest towns in North Idaho, located on the banks of Lake Pend Oreille. In the summer, it’s a haven for outdoor activities, such as boating, fishing and biking, but the winter is no exception (see our next activity for more information!) Because of that, Sandpoint has grown into quite the hub for delicious food and drink. There are plenty of breweries to taste test, and the food is unparalleled.
