Biking from Sandpoint — our top trails, paths and resources

Tuesday, October 30, 2018

Biking is one of the easiest forms of exercise — and a great way to see all the beauty North Idaho has to offer! Surrounded by mountains, Lake Pend Oreille and amazing forests, Sandpoint is the perfect jumping-off point for bike rides. It’s an easy way to tour through town or power through the mountains. You don’t even need to own your own bike! Rent a bike through Sandpoint Marine & Motorsports for the most fun a family can have on two wheels.

Looking for the perfect trail? Here are a few of our favorite bike trails near Sandpoint, Idaho:

Schweitzer Mountain Resort —

You’ll find it all in one place at Schweitzer. With more than a dozen trails on the mountain, all clearly mapped out online, these trails are easy to find and come with great views.

Northern Tier  —

This bike trail crosses the upper United States, running directly through the heart of Sandpoint, Idaho. This trail starts in Anacortes, Washington, and runs all the way to Bar Harbor, Maine. You can start in Sandpoint and ride either east or west out of town for as many miles as your heart desires!

Bottle Bay-to-Sagle Road Trail —

This path starts and ends in the North Long Bridge parking area. Take the bike path across the Long Bridge, turning onto Bottle Bay Road. Turn east at the end of Bottle Bay Road, where it meets Sagle Road. This is a 24 mile, but can be cut in half by turning back at Lignite Road.

Additional information —

We’ve listed just a few of our favorite trails, but there are tons more in the areas around Sandpoint! One great resource is the Pend Oreille Pedalers (or POP) Bicycle Club website. They have ride information broken down by mountain biking, bike trails and paved rides.
